Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness in the Age of Global Terrorism

Religious revivalism – Islamic, Hindu, Christian – is shaking three of the mightiest pillars that have sustained human progress since the European enlightenment: humanism, science and rationalism. Today, diversity is less easily recognized and accepted within political and national bodies almost everywhere. How does one make sense of a world turning away from pluralism? Of a Muslim world whose attitude towards terrorism is often characterized by ambivalence?

  1. Nice video, when i was watching it, the words, american dream, go to the west, equal rights an opportunites, salad bowel, melting pots were coming to my mind from abook about american civilazation in my course. I was also thinking the law that every action has its reaction,
There is no denying the fact that the US is drifting away from its wonderful enlightened ideas..the real reason is not terrorism but econmic crisis and inequality as Pervez Hoodbhoy has mentioned. The other change is that china is taking place of the US. The US is not destined to stay at the helm of the world eternally. After industrial revolution by dint of science and technology the west was able to subdue the east. Now the east has got wise to her shortcoming. Once the handicap is overcome the world will be governed by the better between the two.

How to fight for universal humanism is the important question here, The part of the answer lies in teaching children philosophy and ethics with science. In the end the better is one who is morally great.
